OUT OUT
On an intensive one month intensive UX design course I created a concept for two user flows of a Night out App in response to the problem:
“What’s happening in the city tonight, and where can I go out?
How Might We: we provide real-time exposure of local popular events to nightlife goers and create a seamless all-in-one event experience?”
Research
My initial research was conducted through interviews with my peers, family and friends. For those who were busy I sent a survey mainly around the subject of how one sources their news to go out.
A challenge I found when conducting this exercise was asking questions that were open ended and impartial so as to gain the most qualitative feedback.
My target audience was young people, so majority of the people I asked were from an age demographic of late teens to mid-30s.
Findings
From the findings I created a set of Personas with my target audience in mind. The main pain points I came across was being notified ahead of time about an event and showing results that matched the specific needs of the user. These two point became my focus user flows for the rest of this project.

UI Design
The Ui design for this app was inspired by 90s House music posters because I wanted to represent the fun, energetic and celebratory atmosphere that they carried for this App.

Reflection
Through this project and process I learnt that iteration is key and that the design and content is led by the user. The process of trial and error is part of the UX design process. Make the design clear and easy to navigate is another point I feel I will take away.
I will continue to practise allowing my design to be led by the user’s preferences. Maybe I will try to sit down with more people directly and observe their reactions more and note their experiences. To get more in-depth feedback of how to further improve. Really try and home in on what their needs and desires are. While at the same time balancing the needs of the business and its brand. I feel this a core challenge that over time and with practise I will be able to navigate into the future.
